Junta de Andalucía pardons 142 illegally built homes in Jaén
The properties concerned have been built in local river beds
The Junta de Andalucía has pardoned the construction of 142 illegal homes which had been built in a riverbed in Jaén. A report from the Guadalquivir Water Board, dating from 2004, determined that 155 villas had been constructed illegally at a distance of less than 50 metres from the river, and thus occupied public land next to the Eliche, Quiebrajano and Jaén rivers.
But an agreement announced on Wednesday after a meeting between the Regional Government Delegate in Jaén, Felipe López, and the Director of the Andalucia Water Agency, Juan Paniagua, announced that only 12 properties would suffer ‘partial demolition’, and therefore 142 homes in the Los Puentes area would be pardoned.
It comes despite warnings from the Prosecutors’ Office which wanted to see an end to the illegality. The Partido Popular now wants the land involved to be classified as urban land.
