The author was told that the UK’s Labour government of 1974 would take 85% of the money he had had earned from his first three books, unless he moved abroad for a year.<br /> <br /> Forsyth chose Spain for his year away from the UK. As he told a reporter from the newspaper Levante-emv, ‘I’d just married. My wife and I looked for a quiet spot and someone recommended Dénia, which was cheaper than Marbella. We bought an old house, with a hectare of land with oranges, and we spent our time restoring it.
