San Javier Civil Guard allegedly used force's IT system to plan burglaries: "La Verdad newspaper has revealed more details of an operation in early June which saw the arrest of 9 members of an armed gang of Spanish and Romanian burglars, including a Civil Guard officer based in San Javier.

According to information from documents included in the case summary, the officer, José Francisco M.T., was responsible for the logistical planning behind the assaults. He allegedly selected the targets and gathered information on them using the Civil Guard’s I.T. system, SIGO.

He is also said to have used SIGO to track the gang members and the cars they used in the assaults to determine if any of his colleagues in the force were on their trail.

The paper notes that one of the gang’s victims has identified the officer’s service weapon, indicating that he may have taken part in some of the burglaries himself.

Other information revealed is that a laptop which was stolen during one of the burglaries was later found, complete with its purchase invoice, during a search of his home.

José Francisco M.T. has denied any involvement with the gang, and has admitted only to a friendship with one of the suspects. He is understood to have said the friendship came about because the man had acted as an informer during previous Civil Guard investigations"
