THE Inaugural Almeria Festival of Speed has been confirmed for June 29 at Tabernas Race Circuit. This is a joint Euro Weekly News – Spectrum Fm initiative to promote Costa Almeria as a Motorsport destination. It is being billed a family fun day out and there will be free entry. The date has been purposely chosen during the first week of the Spanish school summer holidays and children will be specifically catered for at the event. At the time of going to press the full schedule for the day is yet to be confirmed but there will be approximately 50 cars and motorbikes taking part in a track day. There will also be displays of racing cars and a go kart track with adult and junior karts for use by everybody. Discussions are ongoing with classic car clubs, Ferrari Owners Club, as well as The Harley Davidson owners club for fixed displays and parade laps throughout the day. There will also be live entertainment on stages set up in the paddock area as well as refreshments to cater for all tastes. The latest vehicles available for the road will also be in attendance with main dealers displaying and offering test drives in their latest models. Visitors will be able to purchase laps in racing cars ranging from Ariel Atoms to Seat Leons used in the Spanish Touring Car Championship as well as in BMW M3's. Subject to this season's racing commitments current British Touring Car Champion Matt Neal will be in attendance as will ex Le mans racer and IMSA GT Cup Champion John Fitzpatrick and flying aps with these professional drivers will also be on offer to guests. Tabernas Race Circuit is ideally located only 10 minutes from the A-92 motorway with easy access from Costa Del Sol, Murcia and of course Almeria. The 4.2km circuit is modern, extremely well laid out and the vast viewing area from above The Pits affords almost a 100% view of the entire track. One of the best viewing areas of any track in Europe. We are hoping that this will become an annual event and cement Almeria as perfect choice for Motorsport enthusiasts.
