BRITISH boy has died in a freak snowplough accident on a skiing holiday in the Pyrenees.

Federico Nicholls Lopez, five, was playing by a chairlift when the driver buried him under a huge pile of snow.

His dad Thomas and other skiers desperately tried to pull him to safety.

But his heart stopped after he was trapped for about a minute.

Resort workers were unable to revive him and the lad died in intensive care 11 days later.

An investigation has been launched and the snowplough driver could face manslaughter charges.

Resort director Roberto Buil said yesterday: “We would like to express our condolences to the family and will give them all the support we can following this tragic accident.” Federico, of Islington, North London, was at the Baqueira Beret ski resort in the Aran Valley, Spain, with parents Thomas Nicholls and Ana Lopez.

The snowplough driver was clearing a path to a ski lift and had not seen the lad playing when he accidentally buried him on February 25
