The news was confirmed by British Armed Forces Minister, Nick Harvey, during a visit to the Rock, and comes as spending cuts are leading to some reorganisation, including a reduction in the number of Defence staff on the Rock.
At a meeting with the Gibraltar First Minister, Peter Caruana, at his residence in Convent Place, Mr Harvey said that following the Strategic Defence and Security Review, the airfield and maritime presence will be maintained ‘to protect the sovereignty of British Gibraltar Territorial Waters’."
