The left-leaning daily’s publisher Mediapubli blamed the move Tuesday on falling advertising revenue, changes in the print media industry and trouble finding financing.

The paper was founded in 2007 and as of late last year had an average daily circulation of about 82,000. By comparison, the figure for Spain’s top selling-daily, El Pais, is about 400,000.
Publico now has a staff of about 160, after shedding 30 jobs in September.
A committee representing Publico workers said they have not been paid for December.
Mediapubli also sought protection for another paper it owns, La Voz de Asturias, based in northern Spain.
